IBM Acquires Internet Security Systems ; Sirius Inks Partnership with IBM Internet Security Services

Internet Security Systems, Inc. (ISS) was founded in 1994 by Christopher W. Klaus and made its initial public offering on the NASDAQ on March 23, 1998. The company provides security products and services that preemptively protect enterprise organizations against Internet threats. And it’s that preemptive capability that backs up their tag line of being “Ahead of the threatTM”.

IBM Acquires ISS
On October 20, 2006, IBM completed the acquisition of ISS, which then became a business unit of IBM Global Services. Taking a quote from the IBM press release: “For the past 12 years, ISS has provided thousands of customers with leading-edge, innovative and effective security products, services and intelligence," said Val Rahmani, General Manager, Infrastructure Management Services, IBM Global Services. "Incorporating ISS' proactive, integrated security platform into IBM's portfolio will provide customers with the protection they expect from an industry leader."

From the ISS perspective, the acquisition by IBM allows them to propel ISS’ preemptive security vision to a much wider audience.
