#7: BLADECENTER JS21 and JS22: IBM has included EnergyScale technology in the JS22 at no extra cost. The EnergyScale architecture leverages the power control facilities in POWER6 to provide a complete power and thermal management solution. EnergyScale allows for power capping and “nap mode” when cores are not being used. IBM’s competitors are just beginning to look into this capability. Plus, the JS22 is half the cost of HP's BL860c and it outperforms the Montecito version by about 50%. 

 

#6: IBM System p550 consumes less power and require less cooling than competing HP Integrity, Sun UltraSPARC, and Sun SPARC64 systems. Thus, ongoing operating costs for p550 will be less.

IBM captured 34.2 percent revenue share in the fourth quarter of 2007, and 31.1 percent revenue share for the full year of 2007. » Press Release 

 

#4: IBM System p 570: Delivers outstanding price/performance when compared to the UltraSPARC-, SPARC64-, and Itanium-based servers. Compared to competitor’s configurations, the p570 can be configured with fewer processors to attain the same performance, thus saving on licensing fees for software licensed by the core and saving energy costs thanks to the smaller configuration.  Even a fully configured p570 is more environmentally friendly than the Sun SPARC Enterprise M8000, using less power and producing less heat.
